Reggie Jackson Reflects on Racism Faced in Alabama During MLB Career
Baseball legend Reggie Jackson, 78, recounted the severe racial abuse he faced as a young player in Birmingham, Alabama, during a Fox Sports panel for the Negro Leagues tribute game. Jackson shared harrowing experiences of being denied service at restaurants and hotels due to his race, and credited his white teammates and manager for supporting him through the violent racial strife of the 1960s. Despite these challenges, Jackson had a stellar 21-season career, earning five World Series wins and a Hall of Fame induction in 1993.
