A Mexican drug cartel is suspected of carrying out drone attacks on the rural community of El Caracol, dropping as many as 33 homemade bombs. The attacks began in August, causing residents to flee and seek refuge in nearby towns. The community has been caught in the crossfire between rival organizations, the La Familia Michoacana drug cartel and the Los Tlacos regional gang. In a separate incident, a video surfaced showing the brutal slaying of five men who were deceived into a recruitment program for the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel and killed when they refused the job.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis's $13.5m police recruitment program has attracted officers with histories of excessive violence or criminal charges, including kidnapping and murder. The program, which offers cash incentives to officers from other states, has recruited almost 600 officers, some of whom have arrived with complaints against them or have since accrued criminal charges. The Daily Dot compiled its report from state records obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request. DeSantis's office did not respond to a request for comment.
