Minnesota nuclear plant shuts down for radioactive water leak repair.
Xcel Energy will shut down its nuclear power plant in Minnesota to repair a new leak of water containing a radioactive compound. The leak is confined to the facility, but a small amount of the leaking water has begun reaching groundwater at the site. The shutdown is not expected to impact electrical service in the area. The earlier leak of about 400,000 gallons of water containing tritium was fully contained on-site. The plant's proximity to the Mississippi River is being monitored due to the groundwater flow towards it.
