Silent Electronics Power World's Largest Radio Telescope

Researchers have developed SMART boxes, known as PaSD boxes, to power and collect signals from the Square Kilometre Array Low frequency (SKA-Low) telescope, the world's largest radio telescope currently under construction in Western Australia. These boxes provide electrical power to the telescope's antennas and had to meet strict radio emission requirements due to the need for a pristine radio quiet zone. The boxes were tested and achieved the highest standards in radio astronomy. A contract has been awarded to build up to 12,000 SMART boxes, showcasing Australia's sovereign capability in the space industry.
