RNZ launches review after publishing 'pro-Kremlin garbage' on Ukraine stories.

New Zealand's national radio broadcaster, Radio New Zealand (RNZ), has launched an independent review of its editorial processes after it published a range of stories on its website, including on Russia's invasion of Ukraine, that were altered to present "a false account of events". RNZ had by Wednesday corrected 22 stories on its website dating back to April 2022 because of what it termed "inappropriate editing". The broadcaster, which is government-funded but has editorial independence, said its board decided an independent review was necessary.

Radio New Zealand under fire for pro-Kremlin Ukraine coverage

Radio New Zealand has launched an investigation after admitting that a series of news stories on its website about Russia's invasion of Ukraine had been edited to present "a false account of events." The broadcaster has corrected 16 stories on its website dating back to April 2022 because of what it termed "inappropriate editing." RNZ said in a statement it was continuing a detailed audit and analysis of all stories that could have been inappropriately edited. Fourteen of the stories had been supplied by Reuters and one came from Britain's BBC.

Radio New Zealand Investigates Pro-Russia Editing of Ukraine Reports

A digital reporter at Radio New Zealand (RNZ) has been accused of inserting "pro-Kremlin garbage" into news stories about Russia and Ukraine published on the broadcaster's website. RNZ's CEO, Paul Thompson, has apologized and said that around 250 stories have been forensically checked for Russian propaganda since they became aware of the issue on Friday, with 16 requiring corrections and editor's notes. The accused journalist has been placed on leave, and thousands more articles will need to be reviewed for problems. The majority of the altered stories were based on reports from the Reuters news agency.

New Zealand's public radio station, Radio New Zealand (RNZ), has apologized for publishing "pro-Kremlin garbage" on its website after more than a dozen wire stories on the Ukraine war were found to have been altered. Most of the stories were written by Reuters and were changed at RNZ to include Russian propaganda. RNZ has placed a digital journalist on leave pending the result of an employment investigation and is commissioning an external review of the organization's editing processes. RNZ is republishing the stories with corrections and editor's notes.

Investigation launched into pro-Russia bias in Ukraine coverage.

Radio New Zealand is conducting an internal investigation after an employee edited wire reporting on the Ukraine war to add Russia-friendly phrasing. RNZ published at least four articles attributed to the Reuters wire service that had been edited to add pro-Kremlin phrasing. The RNZ chief executive, Paul Thompson, said the inappropriate editing of the stories to reflect a pro-Moscow perspective was deeply concerning and would be addressed accordingly.
