CIA Chief warns of Putin's regime and Wagner Group rebellion
CIA Director William Burns stated that the recent armed rebellion led by Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin in Russia serves as a "vivid reminder" of the "corrosive effect" of Putin's regime. Burns also mentioned that the CIA is actively recruiting human sources in Russia due to "disaffection" with the war in Ukraine. The Biden administration has emphasized that the US had no involvement in the rebellion and has reached out to Russia to convey this message. Burns had previously traveled to Ukraine to reaffirm the US commitment to sharing intelligence and supporting Ukraine's defense against Russian aggression.
