Philadelphia Mosaic Icon Isaiah Zagar Dies at 86, Leaving a Citywide Legacy
Famed mosaic artist Isaiah Zagar, founder of Philadelphia's Magic Gardens, died at 86 from congestive heart failure and Parkinson's disease. He produced more than 200 public mosaics across roughly 50,000 square feet, helped revitalize South Street, and built immersive art environments like Magic Gardens and Eye's Gallery. Influenced by Latin American folk art, his work spans Philadelphia and beyond; memorial arrangements will be announced, and he is survived by his wife Julia and sons Zeke and Jeremiah.
