Porter Square's Spinning Sculpture: A 1980s Public-Art Milestone
The 46-foot-tall Gift of the Wind sculpture by Susumu Shingu at the Porter Square T stop, a centerpiece of the 1980s Arts on the Line program, has been spinning for decades with little recent maintenance and no current funding for restoration; installed overnight with a crane, it briefly halted during setup due to metal contact but was adjusted and has since continued to rotate, standing as a longtime local landmark.
