Wireless Programming with Reflective Sensor and Backpack-Wearing Bees

Electronics enthusiast Ido Gendel has created a remote-controlled proximity sensor that can be programmed wirelessly. The device uses an off-the-shelf sensor with an IR LED and a phototransistor pointed in the same direction that gives a digital output when the light bouncing back into the phototransistor exceeds a certain threshold. Gendel's programmable drop-in replacement uses an ATtiny212 microcontroller and a couple of components to control the power of the LED so the sensor can do double duty. A programmer using the same sensor and a USB-to-UART adapter completes the system, and allows the sensor threshold to be set just by shining the programmer in its general direction from up to 25 cm away.

"iPhone 15: Redesigned Dynamic Island and Improved Face ID Expected"

Apple is reportedly planning to integrate the proximity sensor into the Dynamic Island with the launch of the iPhone 15 this fall. This change is expected to have no impact on the Dynamic Island area itself. The move could potentially lead to improved Face ID performance, but it is more likely a manufacturing or cost-cutting decision. Apple supplier Finisar will supply the company with 940n wavelength proximity sensors for the iPhone 15.

"iPhone 15: New Design and Features Revealed in Leaks and Rumors"

The iPhone 15 series will feature an integrated proximity sensor within the Dynamic Island area, according to Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The change is unlikely to affect the look or functionality of the Dynamic Island, but may reduce costs. Apple supplier Finisar will provide 940nm wavelength proximity sensors, compared to 1380nm for the iPhone 14 Pro. The iPhone 15 lineup is expected to launch in September.
