Decoding Quantum Entanglement in Protons: A New Frontier
Researchers at Brookhaven National Laboratory have discovered that quarks and gluons within protons are entangled, reshaping the understanding of proton structure. Using quantum information science, they analyzed data from high-energy electron-proton collisions, revealing that this entanglement occurs at extremely small scales and affects the distribution of particles produced in collisions. This finding, published in Reports on Progress in Physics, could provide insights into nuclear physics and will be further explored in future experiments at the Electron-Ion Collider.
