"Massive Fraud Scheme: 17 BSO Employees and Deputies Charged in PPP Loan Scandal"
Seventeen employees of the Broward County Sheriff's Office (BSO) in Florida have been charged with fraudulently applying for and receiving Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans. The investigation, which looked into all 5,500 BSO employees, identified about 100 employees who took PPP loans, and narrowed it down to 17 whose applications were deemed illegitimate. The employees collectively took just under $500,000 from the federal government. The charged employees, including sworn law enforcement deputies and jailers, are facing federal charges related to PPP wire fraud. The BSO employees are in the process of being fired, and the investigation remains ongoing with the possibility of more indictments.
