"Harnessing Nature's Energy: The Revolutionary Plant-Powered Sensor"
Researchers have developed a self-powered sensor using a plant called soft rush (Juncus effusus L.). The plant's stem has a unique structure consisting of interconnected star-shaped layers, creating an open and airy structure. This structure, known as aerenchyma, allows air to flow through and is ideal for building a nanogenerator. The nanogenerator harnesses the triboelectric effect to convert movement into electrical signals. The soft rush plant-based foam is lightweight, sustainable, and can be used as an alternative to batteries in wearable devices. The researchers are also exploring other applications, such as using the plant material for batteries and water purification.
