A report by Ookla reveals that smartphone users connected to 5G networks experience higher battery drain compared to those on 4G LTE, with a difference of 6% to 11% depending on the chipset. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is found to be the most efficient flagship chipset, with a battery drain of 31% on 5G and 25% on 4G LTE. Ookla suggests that users can achieve similar battery life by disabling 5G on their phones and using 4G connectivity only, or by upgrading to newer 5G models. Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 users can disable 5G to improve battery life, with the Tensor chipset showing higher battery drain on 5G compared to 4G.
