Watertown Overcomes Water Crisis with Community Support
Water has been restored in Watertown, New York after a 50-year-old pipe ruptured, but a boil water order remains in effect for the city and surrounding areas. The repair is holding, but it will take time to fully restore water service. The rupture left over 45,000 people without water, leading to school and business closures. Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency and sent drinking water and tankers to the area. Residents are advised to boil water for one minute or use bottled water for drinking and other purposes. A mandatory water conservation notice is also in effect.
