Double-mode RR Lyrae stars: A novel tool for measuring galaxy distances and metallicity.

Astronomers from the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC) have proposed using double-period RR Lyr stars to measure the distances of galaxies, with the distance error of galaxies being optimized to 1–2%. Double-period RR Lyr stars are unique because the two periods are associated with stellar properties such as mass and elemental abundance. This method will increase the sample of galaxies with high-precision distance by a factor of 20 or more and provide an intuitive 3D map of the Local Group and obtain a high-precision Hubble constant.

Exploring Bochum 2: A Deep Optical Photometric Study.

Indian astronomers have conducted deep optical photometric observations of the open cluster Bochum 2 using the 1.3m Devasthal Fast Optical Telescope (DFOT). The study found that Bochum 2 has a radius of 3.6 light years, a reddening of 0.8 mag, and is located approximately 12,400 light years away from Earth. The cluster's dynamical age was estimated to be 8-14 million years, while the age of the most massive stars in Bochum 2 was calculated to be about 5 million years. The study also found the presence of an excess number of low-mass stars in Bochum 2, indicating the effect of mass segregation.
