"Western Washington Braces for Heavy Snowstorm This Weekend"

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Oregon and Southwest Washington Cascades, with heavy snow and gusty winds expected above 1,000 feet elevation starting Sunday. Snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are forecast, with higher amounts above 2,000 feet, and snow levels are expected to fall rapidly behind a cold front, reaching as low as 500 to 1,000 feet by Tuesday.

Winter Weather Alert: Snowfall and Cold Temperatures Expected in the Pacific Northwest

The first significant snowfall of the season is expected to bring between 3 and 5 inches of snow to the Oregon Cascades, particularly Mount Hood, with the potential for hazardous driving conditions along mountain passes. The snowfall is on schedule for this time of year, and if it continues, there may be skiing on Mount Hood by Thanksgiving. However, there is virtually no chance for snow to reach the valley floor.
