Indonesia Unveils 67,800-Year-Old Cave Art
A red hand stencil in a Sulawesi cave has been dated to at least 67,800 years ago, making it the oldest known cave art and suggesting early Homo sapiens reached Sulawesi and possibly Australia via Sahul routes; dating used uranium-thorium on cave calcite, with evidence of long-term use and later paintings over tens of thousands of years.
