South Africa secures World Cup victory against Afghanistan
Rassie van der Dussen's unbeaten 76 and Andile Phehlukwayo's quickfire 39 helped South Africa secure a nervy five-wicket victory over Afghanistan in their last league-stage game of the 2023 ODI World Cup. Chasing 245, South Africa stumbled but van der Dussen and Phehlukwayo's partnership guided them to victory. Earlier, Afghanistan could only manage 244, with Azmatullah Omarzai's unbeaten 97 being the standout performance. Despite the loss, Afghanistan finished the World Cup with their best-ever performance, winning four games and securing a place in the 2025 Champions Trophy. South Africa will now face Australia in the semi-finals.
