Hurricane Idalia caused a 100-year-old oak tree to fall on Florida Governor DeSantis' mansion in Tallahassee.

Casey DeSantis, the first lady of Florida, revealed that a 100-year-old oak tree fell on the governor's mansion while she and her children were at home during Hurricane Idalia. The tree split in two and draped over part of the historic home, but thankfully no one was injured. Hurricane Idalia made landfall in Florida as a Category 3 storm and has since weakened to a Category 1 as it heads towards Georgia. The storm has caused power outages, downed trees, and flooding in some areas. President Biden has offered federal assistance to the affected states, and the governors of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina have declared states of emergency.

Six people were injured, including one woman with possibly life-threatening injuries, when a large oak tree limb fell on a picnic table at Spring Lake Park in Santa Rosa. The group of about 40 people, gathered for a picnic and Bible study, heard a loud crack before the limb fell. One person was hospitalized with moderate injuries, four others with minor injuries, and a 6-year-old boy was among those injured. The incident occurred due to weak limbs caused by years of drought followed by heavy rains.

A 16-year-old male is in critical condition after a large oak tree in Jackson Square snapped in half and fell on him. Witnesses reported hearing screaming and seeing bystanders pulling people away from the debris. The city's forestry department is assessing the situation, and it is unclear if any work was being done on the trees prior to the accident.
