US and Russia discuss nuclear weapons policy amidst New START suspension.
Russia's deputy foreign minister, Sergei Ryabkov, has said that the US must change its "fundamentally hostile" policy towards Russia for the country to consider rejoining the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START). The treaty sets caps on the number of nuclear weapons each country possesses and broad inspections of nuclear sites. Russia suspended its participation in the treaty in February, citing the US and its NATO allies' support for Ukraine in the ongoing conflict with Russia. The US has responded with countermeasures, but Ryabkov says they will not deter Russia.
