Hooten had six 20 plus win seasons during his time at Sam Houston State and is known for building hard-nosed, defensive-minded teams with character and integrity. NMSU is transitioning from the WAC to Conference USA, and Hooten's Division One coaching experience makes him a good fit for the program.
