NMSU cleared of failure in external investigations and shooting report, but calls for strengthened culture and changes suggested.

An external investigation conducted by the Rodey Law Firm found that New Mexico State University's conduct did not violate NCAA or WAC rules in connection with the fatal shooting involving basketball player Mike Peake. However, the investigation did not address any issue of violation of state law. The law firm recommended that NMSU should consider developing policies to address team curfews, weapons policy, communication with law enforcement, university oversight, and strengthen institutional culture within NMSU athletics. The Bernalillo County District Attorney's office is still reviewing the case.
