Algae-Covered Vanguard Submarine Returns from Lengthy Patrol

Images of a Royal Navy Vanguard class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) returning from a six-month-long deterrent patrol reveal the extensive marine fouling and rust that accumulates on submarines during long deployments. Concerns have been raised about the safety and morale implications of extended submarine patrols, as crews face boredom and complacency. The Royal Navy is currently replacing the Vanguard class submarines with the Dreadnought class.

"Canada Expands Military Presence in Indo-Pacific Region"

Canada will increase its military presence in the Indo-Pacific by committing an additional warship annually, boosting the Royal Canadian Navy's deployment to the region from two to three ships. The Canadian ships will sail in the South and East China Sea as well as the Taiwan Strait in accordance with international law. Canada will also increase its participation in bilateral and multilateral exercises and continue to participate in Operation Neon, its contribution to the monitoring of United Nations Security Council sanctions against North Korea. Defense Minister Anita Anand criticized China as a "disruptive global power that increasingly disregards international rules and norms" but expressed openness toward dialogue with China.
