Sleep Disorder Linked to Parkinson's Disease: Acting Out Dreams as a Warning Sign
Researchers are studying REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD), a condition where individuals physically act out their dreams, and its strong link to neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's. The NAPS Consortium aims to collect extensive data on RBD to lay the foundation for future clinical trials of neuroprotective treatments. Bioelectronic devices and treatments like transcranial magnetic stimulation are being explored as potential therapies. RBD can be an early sign of neurodegenerative diseases, and researchers hope to develop interventions to delay or prevent their development.
