TSMC's Q4 Earnings: Profits, Growth Outlook, and Chip Regulations

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) reported that its N3 (3nm-class) process technology accounted for 6% of its Q3 revenue, marking the first significant revenue recognition for the new node. TSMC's total revenue for Q3 2023 reached $17.28 billion, with advanced nodes now contributing to 59% of the company's earnings. TSMC's long-term plans for the 3nm node include offering variations such as the cost-efficient N3E process technology, which is expected to start volume production in Q4 2024.

"iPhone 16 Pro: Advanced Chip Technology, Faster 5G, Wi-Fi 7, and Camera Upgrades"

Apple has placed order commitments with chip supplier TSMC for its second-generation 3nm chip fabrication process, N3E, which is expected to be used in all models of next year's iPhone 16 lineup. TSMC has already moved N3E to volume production and plans to replace N3 with the upgraded version starting in 2024. The N3E process offers improved yield, chip performance, and power consumption. Apple is projected to take 100% of TSMC's capacity in 2023, contributing as much as $3.4 billion in sales. The iPhone 16 models will be equipped with A18-branded chips based on TSMC's N3E node.
