An Associated Press analysis found that at least 17 states have enacted laws restricting or banning gender-affirming care for transgender minors, often based on model legislation peddled by conservative interest groups. Critics say these groups spread a false narrative based on distorted science and cherry-pick isolated studies to support their agenda. Grassroots activists argue that these solutions are from outside the state and are not representative of the people they were elected to represent.
