"Former Milwaukee Election Deputy Convicted in Absentee Ballot Fraud Case"
Kimberly Zapata, a former Milwaukee election official, was found guilty of misconduct in public office and making false statements to obtain absentee ballots for three fake names ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. Zapata claimed she did it to expose a flaw in the state election system and to draw attention away from election fraud claims made by a Republican state representative. The jury rejected her defense and found that she had committed election fraud. Sentencing is scheduled for May 2.
