UN Peacekeepers and Interpreter Injured in Southern Lebanon Border Patrol
Three U.N. military observers and a Lebanese interpreter were wounded by a shell explosion while patrolling the southern Lebanese border, with fears of a widening conflict in the Middle East as clashes between the Israeli military and Hezbollah militants escalate. UNIFIL, the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, stated that the observers' vehicle had clear U.N. markings and had informed all warring parties of their patrols. The Israeli military denied targeting the observers, and UNIFIL called for a cessation of heavy exchanges of fire to prevent further harm.
