"Rising Gang Violence in Ecuador Sparks Massive Crackdown and International Response"

Mexican drug cartels have infiltrated and allied with local criminal gangs in Ecuador, leading to a surge in violence and unrest. The cartels use Ecuador as a primary drug distribution point for cocaine from Colombia and Peru, with the country's Guayaquil Port serving as a key logistics hub. The recent storming of an Ecuadorian TV station by armed men is linked to a prison escape of a local gang leader, highlighting the ominous connection between Mexican cartels and the escalating violence in the small South American country. The government has declared an "internal armed conflict" and is cracking down on criminal groups, but critics are concerned about the military response's long-term effectiveness. Mexican drug cartels are increasingly targeting remote areas of the U.S., such as Montana, due to the high profits from selling drugs like methamphetamine and fentanyl-laced pills. Law enforcement struggles to police the vast and remote areas of Montana, and the reservations suffer from high rates of drug addiction and low numbers of law enforcement. Despite some successful busts, the drug crisis continues to ravage these communities, leading to calls for more support and resources from the government.

DEA cracks down on Mexican cartel and Louisville gang connection.

The DEA's yearlong "Operation Last Mile" targeting the links between Mexican drug cartels and local street gangs and drug dealers resulted in massive drug busts in Louisville and other cities. The Jalisco and Sinaloa cartels smuggle fentanyl and methamphetamine into the United States and then distribute those drugs to local street gangs and individual drug dealers. The Louisville Field Division's investigations resulted in 137 arrests and seizures of 1,762,240 deadly doses of fentanyl, 544 pounds of methamphetamine, 621 guns, and $4,336,891 in assets. Many acts of violence in Louisville can be traced to the cartels' local affiliates.
