Tennessee Judges Block Nashville Council Reduction
Three state judges have temporarily blocked an effort by Republican lawmakers in Tennessee to cut Nashville's Metropolitan Council in half. The council, which has 40 seats, had blocked the 2024 Republican National Convention from coming to the city. The new statute would require Nashville to craft new council districts by May 1, which city officials say is unreasonable. The judges agreed, saying there is a "compelling public interest in preserving the integrity of the Metro election process that is already underway."
