"Discovery of Technicolor 'Living Magic Carpet' Worm at Costa Rican Methane Seep"

Scientists have discovered a new species of rosy-colored deep-sea worm, Pectinereis strickrotti, near a methane seep off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The worm, resembling a living magic carpet, was first spotted in 2009 and formally classified in 2019. With feather-like appendages and blind eyes, it lives in total darkness at depths of 3,280 feet. The discovery highlights the rich biodiversity of the deep sea, with the team planning further expeditions to explore methane seeps off the coasts of Alaska and Chile.
