Tennessee Governor Calls Special Session to Address Public Safety
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has released a draft proclamation outlining the 18 topics that lawmakers will be allowed to discuss during the upcoming special session. One of the main focuses is the consideration of temporary mental health orders of protection, also known as red flag laws, which Lee has been advocating for since March. While few Republican lawmakers publicly support the idea, a new group called Voices for a Safer Tennessee, supported by some parents from the Covenant School shooting, has been running advertisements in favor of the proposed law. The other topics for debate involve mental health services, law enforcement, and the courts.
