
Matts Creek Wildfire Engulfs Thousands of Acres, Spreading Smoke and Impacting Communities
The Matts Creek wildfire in Bedford County, Virginia, has burned nearly 6,000 acres and is currently 2% contained, according to officials from the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest. The fire is located southeast of Glasgow and northwest of Big Island, south of US-501 and the James River. Light winds are expected, causing heavy smoke buildup in nearby communities. Approximately 200 firefighters, including crews and helicopters, are working to contain the fire.
