Trump shakes up DHS leadership as Mullin poised to take helm
President Trump announced Kristi Noem will leave DHS amid bipartisan criticism of her handling of immigration enforcement and other controversies, moving her to a newly created role as special envoy for the Shield of the Americas. He nominated Senator Markwayne Mullin to replace her; if confirmed, Mullin would lead DHS and become its first Native American head. The transition, slated for March 31, follows a hostile Capitol Hill hearing and scrutiny over a $220 million border-ad campaign and DHS disaster responses, including incidents in Minneapolis.
