Unlocking the Brain's Weight Control Mechanism: A Breakthrough in Obesity Treatment
Researchers have discovered that astrocytes, star-shaped cells in the brain, regulate fat metabolism and obesity by acting on a cluster of neurons called the GABRA5 cluster. A new drug called KDS2010, which inhibits the MAO-B enzyme in astrocytes, has shown promising results in facilitating weight loss in obese mice without reducing food intake, even on a high-fat diet. This breakthrough could lead to a new obesity treatment that allows individuals to lose weight without compromising appetite or avoiding fats. The drug is currently in Phase 1 clinical trials.
