Jim Jordan Continues to Push for Investigation into Trump Case.

Republican U.S. congressman Jim Jordan has asked a judge to allow a House of Representatives panel's investigation into the criminal prosecution of former President Donald Trump to proceed, saying a subpoena of a former Manhattan prosecutor was needed by lawmakers as they consider possible legislation. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who brought 34 felony counts of falsifying business records against Trump, last week sued Jordan to stop what Bragg called a "campaign of intimidation" against the prosecution of the former president.

House Judiciary Chair subpoenas ex-Manhattan prosecutor in Trump probe.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan has issued a subpoena demanding the testimony of former Manhattan prosecutor Mark Pomerantz, who led the investigation into former President Donald Trump that led to his indictment on March 30. Pomerantz turned down a request to voluntarily cooperate with a congressional investigation into the office that charged Trump. Jordan criticized the investigation into Trump and claimed his investigation might inform future legislation. Pomerantz should not be shielded from testifying about his experiences investigating Trump because he published a book about his work on the case and discussed it in an interview with CBS' "60 Minutes."

Trump's Hush Money Scheme Exposed in Indictment.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg alleged that former President Donald Trump instructed his then-attorney Michael Cohen to delay paying $130,000 in hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels until after the 2016 presidential election to avoid paying altogether. Bragg's allegation challenges Trump's current attorney Joe Tacopina's argument that the payment was "not directly related to the campaign." Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records during his arraignment in Manhattan criminal court. The alleged scheme to conceal payments from the public "violated New York election law, which makes it a crime to conspire to promote a candidacy by unlawful means," the DA said.

Trump doubles down on attacks against Manhattan prosecutor.

Donald Trump has vowed to escalate attacks against the Manhattan prosecutor who revived the criminal prosecution into hush money payments made to the adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016 now he has been indicted by a grand jury. Russian police have arrested a woman suspected of delivering a bomb that killed a prominent pro-war Russian military blogger in central St Petersburg. Finland’s prime minister, Sanna Marin, has lost her battle to stay in power after her centre-left Social Democratic party (SDP) was narrowly beaten into third place in a cliffhanger election by its conservative and far-right rivals. Oil prices have surged to $86 a barrel after the world’s largest producers announced a surprise cut in production, a move that is likely to prompt fresh tensions with the US as western governments try to get a grip on inflation. The author Judy Blume says a rise in intolerance in the US has led to a “much worse” epidemic of book banning than she experienced in the 1980s.

The Controversy Surrounding Trump's Indictment

Former White House press secretary and current MSNBC personality Jen Psaki advised Democrats to refrain from celebrating the indictment of former President Trump and to stay out of it for now, as Republicans accuse the Manhattan prosecutor’s case as politically motivated. Psaki suggested that Democrats who want to weigh in on the matter should stick to the talking points that no one is above the law, that Trump will “be able to avail himself of the legal system,” and that any protests should be peaceful.

Trump's Lawyers Engage in Public Feud Amid Legal Battles.

Some of Donald Trump's lawyers have privately criticized co-lead defense attorney Joe Tacopina as "dumb" and a "loudmouth" following the former president's indictment by Manhattan prosecutor Alvin Bragg. Tacopina has a history of representing high-profile clients and securing hard-to-land wins, but has also had some high-profile flameouts. Tacopina has become a more familiar face on cable television, defending Trump's denial of paying off porn star Stormy Daniels to keep her quiet about an alleged affair. Some of Trump's lawyers and advisers have warned the ex-president that he should be careful with Tacopina, and that he cannot trust the attorney's loyalty.

FBI Prepared for Possible Violence in Response to Trump's Indictment

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Mark Warner has stated that the FBI is fully prepared for any potential violence that may occur after former President Trump called for his supporters to protest a potential arrest as a prosecutor in Manhattan investigates Trump's alleged role in a hush money payment. Trump's latest rhetoric has raised concerns about possible violence, and many have compared it to his calls to supporters after the 2020 election that culminated in the violent Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
