Lauri Markkanen to complete Finnish military service in offseason.

Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen plans to fulfill his mandatory military service with the Finnish military during the offseason. Finland requires its male citizens to fulfill their mandatory military service by the time they turn 30. If the Jazz make the playoffs, he would report in July. Markkanen was traded from Cleveland to Utah in September in the deal that sent Donovan Mitchell to the Cavaliers.

Lauri Markkanen set to complete Finnish military service.

Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen will fulfill his mandatory military service requirement in Finland this summer. All male citizens of Finland must complete this requirement before they turn 30 years old. Markkanen has previously postponed his service while in college and playing for the Finnish national team. He is confident that he can complete his service without affecting his preparation for next season.

Military service is mandatory for male citizens of Finland and must be completed by age 30. Markkanen intends to do it in a way that won't affect his preparation for next season. Depending on when Utah's season ends, he'll either report for his service April 17 or sometime in July.
