Bay FC, a newly established team in the NWSL, has signed Zambia forward Racheal Kundananji from Madrid CFF for a world-record fee of €735,000 ($785,000). Kundananji, who has scored 33 goals in 43 Liga F games for Madrid, becomes the first African player to break a world transfer record. The 23-year-old has signed a contract until 2027 with the option of a further year, and Bay FC's general manager praised her as a tremendous talent with dynamic attacking qualities. This signing follows a trend of increasing investment in women's soccer, with the women's game seeing a record spend for a January window of $2.1m.
