Record-breaking Whisky Auction: Rare Bottle Sells for $2.7 Million
A bottle of The Macallan 1926, considered the world's "most sought-after Scotch whisky," sold for over $2.7 million at an auction in London. Aged in sherry casks for 60 years, it is the oldest Macallan vintage ever produced. Sotheby's had expected it to fetch between $934,274 and $1.4 million, but it exceeded expectations, setting a new record for any bottle of spirit or wine sold at auction. The bottle is one of only 40 produced in 1986, with none made available for purchase. The rarity and exclusivity of the whisky, along with its unique label designed by Italian painter Valerio Adami, contributed to its high value.
