Venus: A Volcanic Hotspot in Our Solar System
Scientists analyzing data from NASA's Magellan spacecraft have discovered evidence of recent volcanic activity on Venus, Earth's closest neighbor. The discovery is based on changes in a vent near one of the planet's largest volcanoes, Maat Mons. The vent grew considerably larger and changed shape, indicating a volcano that has erupted on the surface of Venus. The finding marks the first direct evidence of recent volcanic activity on Venus, which is overwhelmingly covered with volcanoes.
