The Lucid Air Sapphire, a four-door sedan, has set a new record as the quickest car MotorTrend has tested, achieving a 0-60 time of 1.881 seconds with its new Track Tire package, and also excelling in quarter-mile and braking tests, showcasing impressive performance and practicality for an electric vehicle.
The customer-owned Lucid Air Sapphire has set a new world record for the quickest production sedan, completing the quarter-mile in just 8.930 seconds with an exit speed of 154 mph. With a 1.77-second 0-60 mph time and impressive acceleration, the car's drag racing capabilities have been validated in independent runs, showcasing its ability to compete with hypercars. The video also highlights the car's well-thought-out design, including its track mode options, efficient battery pre-conditioning, and car-to-car charging for easier battery refilling at the strip.
Porsche has introduced the Taycan Turbo GT, a version of its electric sedan designed to outperform the Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire in a straight line, with specs that show it was benchmarked against the Plaid. The Turbo GT boasts up to 1,092 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.3 seconds, but faces stiff competition from the Plaid's lower weight and higher torque, as well as the Sapphire's quicker acceleration and higher top speed. Porsche's decades of racing experience are evident in the Turbo GT's impressive track performance, outpacing the Plaid and setting a quicker lap time at Laguna Seca. While the Plaid remains unbeatable in terms of bang for the buck, the Turbo GT excels in track performance and driving experience.
