Louis Bernard Gaskin, known as the "ninja killer," was executed in Florida for the 1989 murder of a New Jersey couple. Gaskin shot Robert and Georgette Sturmfels with a .22-caliber rifle in their winter home and stole property that he intended to give as Christmas gifts to his girlfriend. He was convicted of first-degree murder, armed robbery, burglary, and attempted murder. Gaskin's execution was the state's 100th since the reinstatement of the death penalty in 1976.
