Florida is set to execute Louis Bernard Gaskin, known as the "ninja killer," for the 1989 slayings of a couple visiting the state from New Jersey. Gaskin shot the couple with a .22-caliber rifle and stole property from their home, which he intended to give as Christmas gifts to his girlfriend. Florida has ramped up executions under Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has overseen more executions this year than in his first four years in office combined.
