Unveiling the Unseen: OLED Burn-in Lessons from Ultrawide Monitors
OLED monitors, including ultrawide designs, still pose a risk of burn-in, especially when displaying static content like icons and taskbars. While advancements in OLED materials and compensation algorithms have improved burn-in resistance, there is still much to learn about OLED monitor burn-in. RTINGS' ongoing longevity test revealed that playing 16:9 content on a 21:9 ultrawide monitor can result in differential wear, with the sides of the display appearing brighter than the center. Higher brightness levels can accelerate OLED degradation, making it crucial to address burn-in risks. The test also highlighted how firmware updates can impact burn-in risk, emphasizing the need for further research and improvement in OLED monitor longevity and sustainability.
