Josh Kerr, a multi-time world champion, will attempt to break the iconic mile world record of 3:43.13 in a real race at the London Diamond League on July 18, aided by a customized Brooks spike setup, treating the effort as a peak-season goal rather than a time trial and facing a strong field led by Jakob Ingebrigtsen.
Alicia Monson broke the American record in the 5,000 meters at the London Diamond League, running a time of 14:19.45. She surpassed Shelby Houlihan's previous record and became the first American woman to run under 14:20. Monson finished fifth in the race, which was won by Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia. Monson has been having a record-breaking year, previously setting records in the indoor 3,000 meters and the 10,000 meters. She has secured her spot on Team USA for the World Championships in August but has not yet decided if she will compete in the 5,000 or 10,000 meters.
