VPN by Google One is introducing a new feature that allows users to change their default IP address region from broad to local, improving location-based experiences on apps and websites. The update will roll out on July 29, 2023, and users will still have the option to choose a broader IP address region for increased privacy.
An upcoming update to the Google One VPN will allow users to obscure their location with a "broader IP address region" for even more privacy. This will let various services see the user's country instead of their local region, but may affect location-based experiences in apps and websites. The update is not yet live and presumably requires a server-side component. Google One VPN is more privacy- and security-oriented compared to other VPNs and was made available to all paying subscribers in March.
