Surviving a Flesh-Eating Disease: My Terrifying Journey
A woman from Scotland, Tracy de Jongh Eglin, survived a rare flesh-eating disease that left her with a 20-centimeter deep wound on her buttock. Initially mistaking her symptoms for the flu, she was rushed to the hospital after going into septic shock. Diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis, she spent nine days in a coma and underwent three surgeries to remove infected tissue and muscle. Despite being given a 10% chance of survival, she pulled through but had to relearn how to walk and lost 70 pounds. The cause of the infection is unclear, but she advises seeking medical attention if flu-like symptoms worsen.
