Mercedes-Benz wins California's approval for Level 3 autonomous driving.

Mercedes-Benz's Level 3 autonomous driver assist system, DRIVE PILOT, has been certified to operate in California, making it the second state in the US to allow the technology. Unlike Level 2 ADAS systems, DRIVE PILOT enables the driver to take their hands off the wheel and eyes off the road, with the vehicle liable for anything that happens. Mercedes-Benz's EVs equipped with DRIVE PILOT are loaded with fail-safes in case one system struggles, making it one of the few automakers to achieve Level 3 autonomous driving certification from the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).

Kia unveils EV9 electric SUV with Level 3 autonomy and impressive range.

Kia's upcoming EV9 electric SUV will offer Level 3 self-driving in some countries, up to 336 miles of range on the RWD Long Range model, and an 800V charging architecture that can provide 149 miles of range in 15 minutes. The SUV will come in RWD Long Range, AWD, and RWD Standard Range configurations, with the AWD model featuring a dual-motor 283kW powerplant. The EV9 will also support ultra-wide band digital keys and offer features that can be purchased from Kia's Connect Store. Pricing has not yet been announced, but the SUV will go on sale in some countries in the second half of the year.
