
Last French D-Day Commando Member, Leon Gautier, Dies at 100
Leon Gautier, the last surviving member of the French Kieffer Commando unit that fought alongside U.S. and allied forces during the D-Day invasion, has died at the age of 100. Known for his dedication to educating the public about WWII and the horrors of war, Gautier spent 78 days on the front lines of Normandy and was one of the few survivors. He was praised by French President Emmanuel Macron for embodying the qualities of both a warrior and a peacemaker.
