Last French D-Day commando member, Leon Gautier, passes away at 100

Leon Gautier, the last surviving member of the French Commando Kieffer unit that participated in the D-Day invasion during World War II, has passed away at the age of 100. Gautier and his comrades played a crucial role in the liberation of western Europe, enduring 78 days on the front lines. Out of the 177 commandos who landed on the beaches of Normandy, only two dozen survived. Despite injuring his ankle during the war, Gautier remained a symbol of French pride and resistance against Nazi occupation.
